The owner of the store was incredible. She said that I could have a whole heap of stock. When I got there she had donated SO MANY pairs of gumboots. These were also designer gumboots which were brightly coloured and so gorgeous. What an amazing woman.
I spent the morning Facebooking and Tweeting about the 'Gumboots Crisis' that is about to hit the devastated areas. The morning news ran a story about what we were doing so the word was definitely out.
When I first arrived at the church drop off zone this morning I saw two pairs of little gumboots. I was so touched. These clearly belonged to someone and they were donating theirs for this cause. I added the gumboots to that pile.
I then went out again to pick up more donated pairs of gumboots. While I was out collecting gumboots my Mum and my Nieces were doing letter box drops of flyers we had created about the need for gumboots and other friends were hitting the shopping centres.
When I next returned to the church to do my drop off many other pairs had been donated. Together with gloves, buckets, brooms and hoses all for the clean up. Which meant that word had spread. I was thrilled.
By this evening I was exhausted and my endo pain is flaring up. I am going to have an early night as we are meeting early to organise which streets our teams should go to. It is all coming together. Every little bit counts.
